The world is flooded with information — much of it distorted, de-contextualised, or deliberately misleading. Behind the Headlines is JEWNITED.LV's ongoing advocacy series that cuts through the noise: translating key news, naming propaganda for what it is, and giving our community the tools to respond.
The problem: Anti-Israel narratives spread faster than corrections. Viral footage is stripped of context. Hashtags obscure facts. In Latvia — a country that understands occupation and disinformation from its own history — silence is not an option.
Translation & Localisation
Key news stories, statements, and analyses are translated into Latvian and Russian — ensuring that accurate information reaches both Jewish and non-Jewish communities in their own language.
Context for Latvia
Israel's reality is explained through the lens of Baltic experience: occupation, resistance, national survival. This framing makes the story resonate and cuts through abstract geopolitical arguments.
Social Media Counter-Narrative
A dedicated volunteer team monitors social platforms and responds to disinformation in real time — on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and LinkedIn — with factual, composed, and shareable content.
Legal Follow-Through
When propaganda crosses the line into incitement, JEWNITED.LV doesn't just respond online. In collaboration with the Latvian Jewish Community, we have submitted formal legal complaints and appeals — including the landmark Cukurs case in 2025.

Cukurs Case — Legal Appeal Submitted
The Latvian Prosecutor General's Office initially closed the investigation into Herbert Cukurs, an Arājs Commando officer implicated in the genocide of Latvian Jews. JEWNITED.LV and the Latvian Jewish Community gathered new witness testimonies and documents, and filed a formal appeal. In May 2025, the Prosecutor's Office reopened the investigation due to newly discovered circumstances.

Anti-Zionism Demonstration — Riga City Council Response
When a planned pro-Palestinian protest threatened to feature banned slogans and Hamas symbology, JEWNITED.LV worked with Riga municipality and the State Police to ensure extremist propaganda was prohibited. The city council banned the event.

Solidarity Rally at the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs
JEWNITED.LV organised a public demonstration in support of Israel — calling out genocidal violence, Islamist terror, and hate propaganda — and demanding Latvia's government take a clear moral stand.

#BringThemHome — Outdoor Campaign
In collaboration with partner organisations, JEWNITED.LV placed billboard and digital screen campaigns across Riga featuring the faces of hostages held in Gaza. The campaign brought the human reality of the conflict to the everyday Latvian public.
“Latvia knows what it means to have your history denied and your voice silenced. That is exactly why we cannot stay quiet when the same tactics are used against Israel and the Jewish people.”
